“We Need to Talk” About Disciplinary Actions & Terminations

SEMINAR SUMMARY: Addressing performance issues or behavioral concerns is one of the most challenging aspects of leadership. This course provides managers with a clear, legally sound, and compassionate framework for navigating the disciplinary process. Participants will learn how to move away from "punishment" and toward "correction," focusing on clear communication, thorough documentation, and the goal of returning the employee to successful performance.

Understand the stages of discipline and when to apply them - from informal coaching and verbal warnings to written warnings and performance improvement plans (PIPs)
Write clear, fact-based documentation that focuses on specific behaviors and business impacts
Practice the disciplinary conversation, including how to state the issue clearly, listen to the employee’s perspective, and set firm expectations for improvement
Identify common pitfalls that lead to grievances or legal action

Presentation by Jeanine Wilson, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, and Q&A segment to follow with ASG Attorney Founder Shaunda McNeill, Esq.
